Summer hair

Summer hair isn't talked about much. Summer bodies are, too. The bikini body is, as is the idea. Arriving in September with a few extra pounds... it's even a bit of a tradition.

But… what about the moment you look in the mirror of your holiday apartment and think…"Have I always had these receding hairlines?". Curiously, nobody is speaking.

And no, it's not that you've gone half bald in three weeks. It's just that summer has a knack for highlighting your hair.

In fact, some studies suggest that hair loss follows a seasonal pattern, with an increase between late summer and early autumn. But even before that happens, July and August make hair appear thinner due to a combination of factors less friendly than the neighborhood WhatsApp group chat.

SUMMER HAIR... CLOSE-UP OF THE CROWN

For the rest of the year, your hair is at home. It has its hairdryer. Its wax. That hairstyle you've been perfecting for years… but then summer arrives… and the rules change.

There's the chlorine, which dries out your hair. The salt, which doesn't help make it soft either. The wind, which dismantles in seconds the small feat of engineering that is that scaffolded quiff. The constant showers. The air conditioning. And, of course, that hotel shampoo that seems formulated to clean the extractor hood from Kitchen Nightmares.

I'll tell you, you and your lifestyle are no slouches either: you go from the sea to the pool, from the pool to the terrace, and from the terrace to another dip. If you also play sports, wear a cap, a helmet, or simply sweat more than usual... keeping your hair styled becomes mission impossible.

However, if we had to point to the biggest culprit for causing hair defects, it would be the sun.

As the days go by, hair tends to lighten slightly. It seems like a minor detail, but with less contrast between the hair and scalp, the receding hairline and crown become much more noticeable. On top of that, the summer light comes directly from above—exactly where it's least flattering and most scorching.

In short; summer doesn't increase your hair loss... but it shines a spotlight on it, literally.

PAMPERED FOLLICLE, SUMMER OVER

Luckily, it's not all bad news. There are several fairly easy-to-maintain hacks that make September feel less like a Turkish airline audition.

A hat. When you're going to spend many hours in the sun, it's usually a great ally. Not because it makes a receding hairline disappear (I wish!), but because it protects your scalp.

Rinse your hair after the beach or pool. The less time salt or chlorine is on your skin, the better.

A decent shampoo. Since summer is already quite a handful, at least try not to make things worse with your shampoo. For example, our Strengthening Shampoo, designed for treated skin, pampers your scalp without stripping away everything that's been through it.

Keep up with your treatments. Sure, summer isn't the time for diets or gym sessions, but maintaining your hair treatments year-round guarantees long-lasting results. For example, you can continue using our Follicool hair serum after showering and before your stroll along the beach.

SO THAT WHEN IT'S TIME TO TAKE THE GROUP PHOTO, THE ONLY THING THAT SHINES IS YOUR TAN AND NOT YOUR RECEDING HAIR
