Why am I losing my hair?
For most men the suspect is the same: androgenetic alopecia, or male pattern hair loss. Some follicles on the hairline and crown are sensitive to DHT and gradually shrink, so each new hair grows in thinner… until it stops growing at all.

What's the best hair loss treatment for men?
It depends on your hair loss. For male pattern hair loss, medicines (minoxidil, finasteride) have the most evidence, always with a doctor. On the cosmetic side: a daily topical with actives at the dose of their studies, a shampoo that doesn't punish your scalp, and support from the inside. Our very biased opinion: Follicool, with 5% Capixyl™.
Does Follicool replace minoxidil or finasteride?
No. Those are medicines, with their own uses and side effects, prescribed and monitored by a doctor. Follicool is a cosmetic treatment: it can be used on its own if your case doesn't call for medication, or alongside it if you do use it.
Can I use Hairicane, Follicool and Growzilla if I'm already on minoxidil or finasteride?
Yes, they're compatible. If you use topical minoxidil, ask your doctor how to space out the applications through the day.
How long does a hair loss treatment take to work?
Body and freshness from the first wash. Less diffuse shedding around weeks 4-6. More density from month 3. The sensible thing is to review at 6 months, with a photo every 3 months in the same light and at the same angle: the daily mirror doesn't pick up slow changes.
What is Capixyl™ and what has it shown?
A complex that combines a biomimetic peptide (acetyl tetrapeptide-3) with red clover extract. In its 4-month clinical trial against placebo it showed 13% more hair in the growth phase and 29% less in the shedding phase. Follicool contains 5%, the concentration used in the trial.
Does saw palmetto help with hair loss?
It's the most studied botanical extract for male hair loss, because of its role in the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in men with mild to moderate male pattern hair loss, around 60% of participants responded. It takes consistency (at least 4-6 months). If you take blood thinners, check with your doctor first.
Does biotin make hair grow?
Not on its own. Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and helps mostly when you're low in it, but taking more won't turn a shrunken follicle into a new one. That's why Growzilla combines it with saw palmetto, pumpkin seed and zinc.
How many hairs a day is it normal to lose?
Between 50 and 100. Worry if the amount clearly goes up for several weeks, if your hairline or crown loses density, or if new hair keeps growing in finer.
I'm suddenly losing a lot of hair. Is it alopecia?
Not necessarily. Sudden, diffuse shedding a few weeks after stress, a fever, surgery or a crash diet is often telogen effluvium, which in many cases settles on its own once the cause has passed. We explain it in Suddenly losing a lot of hair?.
Does an anti-hair-loss shampoo actually do anything?
On its own it won't reverse hair loss, but it's the foundation. Hairicane's 3% botanical complex improved hair count, density and the growth/shedding ratio in 28 days in its study with men with male pattern hair loss, combined with the 10% treatment found in Follicool.
How long does each product last?
Growzilla, one month (60 capsules, 2 a day). Hairicane (200 ml) and Follicool (50 ml), a bit longer, depending on how much hair you have and how many sprays you use.
When should I see a dermatologist?
